​Coming from a country where cognizance of police brutality leads to conscientiousness of prevalent and systematic racism – which is used for polarizing political gains and gun violence escalates Islamophobia also used for pushing segregating politics – I was curious to see what leaving The United States of AmeriCan’t Pass Gun Safety Laws, at times referred to as the “melting pot” for melting-on-the-spot in the desert in Israel would be like.
The desert is really an amazing place. I always find myself in awe of it, even when at times it can seem so barren. I spent one night in Mitzpe Ramon this week and discovered the true beauty and magic of the desert - even with it being the off-season (summer isn’t the best time to visit the desert…).
I went to the Golan Heights after an adventurous three days stay in beautiful Clil, in the midst of the Galilee. The bus drive is kind of long, but I enjoyed every second of it. The landscape is amazing and when I saw the Sea of Galilee for the first time I almost fell off my seat. It’s beauty in perfection.
I open my eyes and am surprised. I was expecting to hear the noises of Jaffa Street – one of the main roads of Jerusalem. However, it seems like my room in the Jerusalem Hostel has well insulated walls. I open the curtains to my balcony and the first light of the day is entering my room. Only when I open the door, the noises come in, too. Cars, searching for a place to park, the tram on its way to the Old City, tourists asking for the way to the next sight. I imagined Jerusalem to be different than that. More antique. But instead it is a modern and young city with many students living here and a vivid nightlife.
An adventure trip in Israel
I am a traveler. I am travelling since November 2014. But I had never done an adventure trip before. It’s not that I am one of these guys just hanging around at a bar. Not at all. I like to get to know people, have good talks and learn about local culture.
When I arrived to Arad the owner of my guesthouse Desert Bird Michal asked me if I wanted to do something different. Another hostel had just opened round the corner. The Dead Sea Adventure Hostel is owned by Ifat & Gilad, a guy who did survival training in the desert before he decided that it’s time to reinvent the whole hostel thing. He invited me to do an adventure trip with him.
I said ‘yes’ without knowing what it would be.
When I arrived to the Green Backpackers, my hostel in Mitzpe Ramon – the smallest city in Israel – it was so cold that I didn’t want to go out. I wanted to stay under the blanket with my hot water pad in front of the heating. The reason is that Mitzpe Ramon is located at the Ramon Crater, 860 meters high, in the middle of the Negev desert. That’s why the summers there are hot and dry while the winters are cold. Because of the wind that it constantly blowing all year round it seems even colder.

My name is Mariusz. I’m from Poland, I’m also a half of Our-Little-Adventures traveling blog, or frankly I should say quarter of this blog. As you probably already suspect we are a traveling family. So far, with our daughter (22 months old), we have visited Chile, Iceland, Romania, Italy and Ukraine. Our last trip was to Israel.
Before our trip we had different plans, ideas of how to spend this time in Israel. For sure we at least knew that during our last days we want to spend doing nothing, just chilling. It turned out that during the remaining 11 days, as a team compiled of a wife at 7 months pregnant, and husband and a child we did a lot of things. Let me invite you to our little adventure.
I did an awesome trip around Israel with ILH. I had three whole weeks in this stunning country, but although it seems a long time, time flew by way too quickly.
Where I went and what I did? I’ll tell you:
In January and February I spent two awesome weeks in beautiful Israel. In the very beginning my trip brought me to the North. To an idyllic small town called “Clil” (may also be pronounced as “Klil”) with about 500 people living there.
If you ever need some days for yourself… Days of rest or peace or to concentrate on yourself: Clil is exactly what you are searching for. There isn’t even a supermarket. So there is no distraction at all. Except from nature. Because every tree and every bush is screaming: ‘Come here and discover me.
So that’s what I did…
